What You’re Preparing For

CSLB qualifying examinations are typically two-part

In general, the CSLB qualifying examination process includes a Law & Business exam and a trade-specific exam for the classification being applied for. Exams are administered through PSI testing centers.

What to expect on test day

  • Computer-based, multiple-choice questions (one best answer).
  • Approximately 3.5 hours to complete each examination.
  • Closed book (no reference materials).
  • Some questions require math; a calculator is provided.
  • Many exams include questions that refer to blueprints and/or drawings booklets.

  • Do not assume a fixed passing percentage; candidates are informed at the test site.
  • CSLB notes there are no schools or prep organizations affiliated with CSLB.
